Ewhurst Short Mat Bowls Club
A new public website for a small volunteer-run club
A mobile-first site to help new members find the club and try a session, give existing members an easy way to check fixtures and news, and present the club professionally to visitors and opponents — with no login and no software burden on volunteers.
This project is complete and live at ewhurstshortmatbowls.co.uk. This page describes the agreed brief and how it was delivered.
A simple, professional site for a volunteer club
Ewhurst Short Mat Bowls Club shares a clubhouse at Cranleigh Road with Ewhurst Outdoor Bowls, but runs its own committee, its own fixtures, and its own membership. The club needed a public-facing site that a non-technical committee could keep current without adopting new software — and that reads as trustworthy to visitors and opposing clubs alike.
Before any build work started, we put the key decisions in front of the Chairman and committee in writing, so the site matched what the club actually needed and nobody was surprised by the result.
Six pages, all public
No login is required anywhere on the site — fixtures, results and news aren't sensitive, and a login would add complexity for little benefit to a small volunteer membership.
Agreed with the committee before build
One volunteer, one shared document
A single committee member edits a simple shared document; Upmost turns those updates into site changes. No new software for volunteers to learn.
Free hosting, a proper domain
Hosting itself is free. The club registered ewhurstshortmatbowls.co.uk for roughly £9.59/year, giving the site a professional, memorable address of its own.
One venue, two separate sites
Short Mat and Outdoor Bowls share one clubhouse at Cranleigh Road, but each has different content owners and update needs. The sites stayed separate, clearly cross-linked, with directions reused from Outdoor Bowls rather than duplicated.
Mobile-first, club colours
Large text, simple menus, no tiny buttons — many members and visitors view the site on a phone. Styled in the club's colours and badge, with a green-and-navy bowls theme.
How it was delivered
Confirm decisions, gather content
Committee sign-off on the brief; club badge, history, session times, fees and photos collected.
Build and review draft site
Draft built and reviewed against the agreed pages and design decisions.
Final review, go live
Final content check, then launch at ewhurstshortmatbowls.co.uk.
Deliberately lightweight
A static HTML/CSS site with no build pipeline, no login system, and no database — matching the club's low-maintenance needs. Deployed to Netlify directly from the repository, consistent with Upmost's other client sites.
